Smart Carts, AI, and Biometrics: FairPrice’s Vision for Retail 2.0




FairPrice Group (FPG) is redefining the future of retail with its Store of Tomorrow (SOT) initiative—an ambitious transformation programme integrating advanced technologies like generative AI, data analytics, automation, and biometrics. Spanning over 570 touchpoints, including 164 supermarkets, the initiative aims to deliver smarter, more seamless experiences for both customers and staff.


Smart Carts: Your Digital Shopping Assistant

Currently piloted at FairPrice Finest Sengkang Grand Mall, Smart Carts help customers navigate stores, discover promotions, scan items, and check out—all through a built-in touchscreen synced with the FPG App. The cart even generates a digital receipt, making shopping quicker and more intuitive.




Vision AI: Smarter Store Operations

Using existing CCTV and video analytics, Vision AI enhances staff responsiveness by monitoring queues, customer footfall, and shelf stock levels. It also identifies hazards like spills for prompt action, improving store safety and efficiency.

Grocer Genie: AI for Store Staff

Grocer Genie is an AI-powered operations app for staff, simplifying task management through intelligent assignment and real-time updates. Integrated with Vision AI, it can trigger actions like queue expansion or spill clean-ups, ensuring smooth store operations.

Biometric & Myinfo Checkout: Frictionless Payments

FPG is testing biometric palm print payments and integrating government-linked Myinfo data with its app. This enables automatic application of discounts for seniors, CHAS cardholders, and pioneer generations—eliminating the need for manual verification or physical cards.



Digital Price Cards: Smarter Shelves

Digital price cards replace traditional paper labels, automatically updating pricing and promotions in real time. Managed via the Grocer Genie app, they boost pricing accuracy and reduce paper waste.



Endless Aisle: Infinite Shopping Options

Blending in-store and online retail, the Endless Aisle allows customers to scan product displays and access related items not physically available. This expands choices and enables on-the-spot home delivery via the FPG App.
